When trying to save large layouts to a server across the network, windows generates the following error:
| {Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. |
This error typically occurs when there is a network connection problem. Network connectivity problems have various causes, but they typically occur because of incorrect network adapters, incorrect switch settings, faulty hardware, or driver issues. Some connectivity symptoms are intermittent and do not clearly point to any one of these causes.
One common cause is mismatched duplex levels between network adapters, hubs, and switch ports. The settings at these network resources must always match. Common network adapters and switches are capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 1.0 Gbps or more, at full duplex mode (send & receive simultaneously), however if the network adapter is configured to transmit at a lower speed (e.g. 100 Mbps at half-duplex mode) the above error can occur.
Contact the network administrator to make sure that all complementing network resources (network adapter, hub, and switch) are set to the same and highest possible link speed and duplex settings.
