HELP: Umax Astra Scanner Problems

SYMPTOMS

When using the <Auto Size> auto-acquire setting with one of the Umax Astra scanners (i.e. 4000u), the application and scanner freezes.

CAUSE

When XrayVision™ (XV) instructs the scanner to make its second pass over the media to actually acquire the image, the scanner's driver is still trying to return the scan head to the start position.   Since the Umax driver is still busy and XV tries to start another scanning session, the Umax driver freezes and hangs both the scanner and the software.

RESOLUTION

Increase the dual scan delay for the Umax scanner:

1. Select Tools > TWAIN Devices ... from the menu.

2. Double-click on the VistaScan TWAIN device entry.

3. Set the 'Dual Scan Delay' to 20 seconds.
