Name Grabber and Data Drills are used in tandem to grab patient information from other applications and automatically open or create the patient in XrayVision® XV.
NameGrabber™ is a stand alone application that understands how to extract what patient is currently open in a third-party practice management application. NameGrabber sits in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
To automatically open a patient from an application in XV, click on the NG icon in the system tray with your left mouse button. NameGrabber will extract as much information as possible about what patient or individual is currently open in the other application and pass that information on to XV.
DataDrills are the main work horses when it comes to extracting patient information from another applications. DataDrills are the components that actually understand how to burrow into an application's database and extract the necessary patient information in XV. Unlike NameGrabber, DataDrills operate behind the scene and the user never really knows that they are there.
XV utilizes both of these components together to provide unmatched patient bridging capabilities. Here is how they all work together:
The user clicks on the NG
icon (

in the system tray.
NameGrabber checks to see which application the user is currently using and extracts as much patient information from the open application (i.e. the patient's name).
NameGrabber passes the patient name to XV automatically launching it if it is not already running.
XV passes the patient name to the appropriate DataDrill to have it find out the patient's SSN, IDnum, DOB and sex.
The DataDrill mounts the other application's database and extracts the information and then passes it back to XV.
XV looks to see if this is an existing patient or if the patient needs to be created.
If it is a new patient, the user is prompted with the information extracted by the Data Drill.
The corresponding patient is opened in XV.
The patient's images are automatically displayed (if the option is enabled under Tools > Options).
