Sensor images are automatically oriented when captured as single images or in a layout. The orientation of the resulting image depends on the teeth that are selected before the image capture or the teeth that are associated with a tile in a layout.

Before capturing a single x-ray image, the software prompts you for the
teeth that will be acquired in the image.

When defining a tile in a layout, one of the options is the teeth that
will be associated with the tile.
In general the rules for sensor orientation are as follows:
If you select teeth from the top & bottom, the sensor will orient the image horizontally with the cord coming out of the front of the mouth.
If you select any of the back molars, the sensor will orient the image horizontally with the cord coming out of the front of the mouth.
If you select any of the teeth 4-13 from the top only, the sensor will orient the image vertically with the cord coming down out of the mouth.
If you select any of the teeth 20-29 from the bottom only, the sensor will orient the image vertically with the cord coming up out of the mouth.
If you do not select any teeth, the image will orient the image however it wants to. This orientation is dependent upon the make and driver of the hardware.
