Akron, OH. - November 14, 2000 -- Apteryx, Inc., a software development company specializing in software applications for the dental market, announced today that the State of California's Office of Medi-Cal Dental Services (OMDS) and Delta Dental Plan of California have chosen Apteryx's XVa3® (XrayVision® Assistant 3) to acquire and analyze dental x-rays and other images to assure compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
Kevin Crucs, President and Founder of Apteryx, Inc., said, "We are pleased that after researching a number of dental imaging applications, OMDS and Delta Dental have chosen XVa3 to acquire and analyze dental x-rays and other dental images to assure provider compliance with state guidelines. We have developed XVa3 as both a single-user, mobile application for use on laptop computers and as a multi-user large network application. In this installation, OMDS and Delta Dental will utilize XVa3 in both formats, with laptops for their field representatives who are acquiring x-rays in the field and for representatives in their respective offices who review remotely acquired images. We look forward to our long-term relationship with OMDS and Delta Dental."
Bob Roberts, Apteryx's Vice President of Business Development, added, "Apteryx's ability to customize XVa3 for a variety of uses is exemplified by this project. XVa3's open architecture and modular development enables us to create an application that is suitable for a specific use. OMDS and Delta Dental recognize our ability to create an application that replicates their workflow. Additionally, we are able to guarantee the security of the digital images thanks to our patented STB file format, which assures OMDS and Delta that the images cannot be tampered with."
For OMDS and Delta Dental, XVa3 will acquire dental x-rays and other documentation using laptop-based scanning systems. Provider, patient and image data will be transferred to, stored and reviewed on the OMDS and Delta networks for staff review and archiving in digital form, thereby saving the cost of wet film duplication, storage and return of x-rays and other documentation."Before OMDS purchased XVa3, dental radiographs had to first be obtained from the dentist being audited and later duplicated using a 'wet film' process," said Robert Pierson, Chief of the Office of Medi-Cal Dental Services. "The resulting duplicate film was never as good as the original. With XVa3, the entire dental record (including paper documents and dental radiographs) can be digitally captured at the dental office with excellent quality. This will dramatically enhance our ability to detect fraudulent and abusive activity, as well as providing vital evidence to the Attorney General's office for successful prosecution of offenders."
"Delta Dental and the State of California continue to look to new technology to operate California's dental program for Medicaid beneficiaries in the most efficient and effective way possible," said Mike Kaufmann, a Delta senior vice president and the general manager of the company's Sacramento-based State Government Programs division. "We selected Apteryx's XVa3 software after a very careful review, and with full consideration for how we can best ensure California tax dollars go as far as possible in improving statewide oral health."
